Kindle Vs Nook – Which Ereader Is Better?

Kindle Vs Nook

Click HereElectronic readers or eReaders as they are commonly known are becoming a more and more popular way to read various forms of texts such as books, magazines, newspapers and blogs. This is not surprising as they save a lot of paper which means fewer trees need to be chopped down thus helping to save the environment.

They also saves the user a lot of physical space and takes away the need for large numbers of books to be stored in a person’s house; they are like having a virtual library that is small enough to fit into a pocket. As with most commercial markets, the eReader is advanced by competition and the question of which one is the best arguably comes down to two products, the Kindle Vs Nook.

So, where can you buy a Kindle? The Kindle is produced by online book giants Amazon while its closest rival, the Nook, is made by Barnes and Noble. Both are excellent products so choosing between the Kindle Vs Nook can be difficult as they both have their strengths and weaknesses which are discussed below in our Kindle Review.

Kindle Vs Nook On Price

One of the first questions many potential customers will ask is, what’s the price? And when compared between Kindle Vs Nook, the Kindle comes out on top as it is on average £60 ($100) cheaper. Though the Nook does have extra features, many wonder whether they are worth the extra cash charged by Barnes and Noble and opt instead for Amazon’s version of the technology.

Kindle Vs Nook – Screens

One of the main features that draw many to opt for the Nook over the Kindle is that it comes with a full colour screen as opposed to most Kindle models, which just offer grayscale colouring. This is a big plus for viewing illustrated publications and pictures and Nook also has the edge over the Kindle with a larger screen. Though it is only an inch bigger, 7″ as opposed to the Kindle’s 6″ screen, for many users this makes all the difference.

Amazon is also behind in the Kindle Vs Nook race when it comes to screen resolution as it offers a rate of 800 x 600 pixels compared to 1024 x 600 offered by the Nook. So you may be wondering what is the best kindle to buy. If the device is just used for reading books this makes little difference but as people want to read more varied formats such as blogs and magazines that may include pictures, these factors matter more. However with the recent release of the Kindle Fire, this imbalance has been addressed as it also comes with a colour screen which, like the Nook, is 7″ but at a much lower price, making it likely to lead the market for years to come.

Battery Life

Unfortunately for Barnes and Noble, the Nook pays a big price for its higher screen resolution and its colour screen in the form of a lower battery life. With a Nook reader, you only get around eight hours before the device needs recharging, limiting its usefulness when travelling unless a power point is available. This is also true of the Kindle Fire so consumers need to make a choice between having the luxury of a colour screen or the longer charge times of other Kindle models such as the Kindle Touch or the Kindle Keyboard, which can stay charged for up to two months.

Available Data For The Kindle Vs Nook

One of the main areas that the Kindle attracts customers over the Nook or any other eReader for that matter is in the sheer volume of books available. Amazon have by far more to offer in this area than the competition and continue to expand the number of titles they have, giving them a strong edge in the battle of the Kindle Vs Nook.

Storage Space

The Nook can traditionally hold more information than its rival as once its 8 GB of memory is filled up, it lets its users have more with a SD memory card slot which allows for 32 GB of storage. Even the new Kindle Fire is way behind this with only 5 GB of storage available and while this makes little difference for books and documents, for those who want to build a video library on their eReader the Nook wins hands down.

Connectivity

Uploading data to the reader is probably easier on the Kindle with their superior Whispernet wireless service. This technology is available all over the world and allows for books and other texts to be downloaded instantly. However the Nook browser is generally better for general, frequent use as internet pages tend to appear faster making it less frustrating than its rival.

Kindle Vs Nook – Conclusion

Both the Kindle and the Nook have advantages and disadvantages but overall the Kindle is probably the best choice as it gives more options and has a wider choice of texts. With the release of the Kindle Fire, anything the Nook can do, can be found for a lower price and for those who want longer battery life instead of the colour feature, the Kindle Touch or the Kindle Keyboard would be the best choice of eReader.
